Earlier this week, metalheads celebrated the news of two people breaking out of a nursing home to go and rock at the annual Wacken metal festival. There is one problem – more details have surfaced and it's actually a much sadder story.
Turns out these two people were not from a elderly nursing home, but from a mental hospital. And they are not metalheads.
Itzehoe police spokesman Peter Berndt told the Associated Press that the two men, ages 58 and 59, broke out of the facility and were seen roaming around the city where Wacken Fest takes place, which is also referred to as Wacken.
Festival-goers called police after finding the two “helpless, disoriented and intoxicated” waiting for a bus home at a main street stop after the buses had stopped running at 3 a.m. Saturday.
Police brought them to a first-aid station and then later in the morning sent them home in a taxi arranged by the care home about 30 kilometers (20 miles away).
So it's not quite the happy metal story we thought, but we're thankful that the two men are safe.
