Dave Mustaine Didn't Want The MEGADETH Rust In Peace Lineup To Happen

Also that the new lineup is an upgrade.

Also that the new lineup is an upgrade.

This year was a massive guessing game as to who would be in Megadeth. One of the most popular rumors was that the band was going to get guitarist Marty Friedman and drummer Nick Menza back in the fold and things were going to be Rust In Peace-style from here on out… and you know what? Those rumors were dead on. Unfortunately the lineup fell through for a lot of reasons and now Mustaine is saying he never wanted it to happen in the first place.

"It's no secret that the whole Rust In Peace reunion lineup thing was being attempted," he said. "I didn't want that to happen. I know when something's good and when something's beyond its usefulness to us because the horse is dead."

He also tells the Australian Associated Press that new guitarist Kiko Loureiro and kind-of drummer Chris Adler from Lamb of God are upgrades from the former lineup.

"In no way is this meant to be offensive to Shawn [Drover] or Chris [Broderick], but we've definitely upgraded talent wise, personality wise, friendship wise," he said.

Fair enough. If you're going to be as active as Megadeth is, you really have to get along with your bandmates.
