Van Halen may be done, forever?

Van Halen will never tour again, according to frontman David Lee Roth. Last September, Roth said "I think Van Halen's finished and this is the next phase" in reference to his Las Vegas residency. Now, Roth is saying he doesn't think Eddie will ever play live again.

Roth was interviewed by The New York Times and asked if he can ever see Van Halen touring again. Roth said:

"I don't know that Eddie is ever really going to rally for the rigors of the road again. I don't even want to say I've waited — I've supported for five years. Because what I do is physical as well as musical and spiritual — you can't take five years off from the ring. But I did. And I do not regret a second of it. He's a band mate. We had a colleague down. And he's down now for enough time that I don't know that he's going to be coming back out on the road. You want to hear the classics? You're talking to him."

In January, he told PodKats! Las Vegas Entertainment "I just called Ed to find out who the guitar tech I need to talk to is and some of the gear I need. Everybody's fully aware [of the residency]. We live in small circles here. We have the same manager, everything. The stuff you sing along with, I wrote. I'm a part-owner. It's in the DNA. Whatever happens with Van Halen, it's not for me to guess. I wouldn't hold my breath."

Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen has also reportedly been battling throat cancer for the first time since being given the all-clear in 2002. Roth recently said Eddie "wasn't doing well" and that he's "inherited the band de facto." Eddie himself has still not commented on his health publicly, and the only real source we have close to Eddie is Roth.
