Twisted Sister vocalist Dee Snider is dipping his toe back into cinema, announcing work on a new horror film that he wrote and directed himself. Snider announced on Twitter:
“Wanna talk about a major distraction? My next scary movie (I wrote & I’m directing) is green lit & starts pre-production in 4 weeks! In between I’ve got 3-week pre-planned vacation (two years ago before covid, cancelled twice). When I get home, I leave next day! Yes/Yikes!”
It has been a while since we’ve seen Snider on the silver screen, not since the cult classic Strangeland in 1998. Snider starred in that film, and wrote the story as well.
In a recent interview, Snider stated that he “currently [had] a movie called My Enemy’s Enemy that is in development with the people who produced the Halloween films, Malek Akkad, and I’m going to be directing that in the spring.” So, this is likely this the film he’s referring in his tweet.
It should also be noted that aside from being a legendary rocker and a film-maker, Dee Snider has long been interested in writing—you’ll never guess this—a children’s book. He’s already got one under his belt: We’re Not Gonna Take It, featuring the lyrics to the rock anthem with illustrations that speak to empowerment and self-determination.
Still, our favorite Dee moment remains the time he went to Capitol Hill in protest of the PRMC — the Parents Resource Music Counsel, the Tipper Gore-led assault on free speech. You can watch the full video below, but this never gets old for me:
“Mr. Snider, what is the name of your fan club?" asks then-senator Al Gore.
“The fanclub is called the SMF Friends of Twisted Sister”
"And what does SMF stand for when it's spelled out?" Gore asks.
"It stands for The Sick Motherfucking Friends of Twisted Sister"
Absolutely classic stuff. In reflecting on it now, what he did—along with Zappa, John Denver, and others—was one of the most righteous and just things to ever happen in art. I like knowing that Dee Snider had a little part in pushing back the fascists!
