Isn't it at least a little bit of situational irony that Dirty Rotten Imbeciles' last record was called Full Speed Ahead? Considering things promptly went no speed ahead in terms of new material since its release in 1995, though that appears to be changing very soon.
Vocalist Kurt Brecht tells Phoenix New Times that the band is putting the finishing touches on an EP to "test out the waters" of new material. Meaning there might be more as well?
"It's more old school hardcore," he says. "It's straightforward, without the metal guitar sound."
That said, he's not interested in totally saying goodbye to metal.
"I'm more into the hardcore myself, but it's okay if we keep the metal because we mix it all together," he says.
Brecht and original guitarist Spike Cassidy are still in the group, so at least you know D.R.I. will still sound like D.R.I. to some extent or another. This should be pretty interesting!
