As many of you probably heard, the metal community lost one its most devoted champions and advocates earlier this year when Brian Shields passed away from causes unknown. Here was a man who lived, breathed and loved metal with every fiber of his being, and he made a huge impact on many musicians and fellow devotees of the scene, as evidenced by Heavy Blog Is Heavy's memorial post that was published shortly after his death.
Brian was a kind-hearted and upbeat individual who always lent a hand to bands in need, and in an attempt to keep his spirit of giving and passion alive, Heavy Blog Is Heavy teamed up with several prominent members of the underground metal community and created the Brian Shields Memorial Fund, an Indiegogo campaign with the goal of raising a scholarship to help at least one unsigned band get on the road and bring their music to masses in Brian's honor.
The campaign has been going on for almost a month now, but there's still a ways to go before reaching the $6,500 goal. There's only three days left in the campaign, so I ask you, if you have any extra change to spare, please consider donating to the Brian Shields Memorial Fund and play an integral part in not only keeping underground metal alive, but also the spirit of Brian Shields.
