A few months after longtimeĀ Deftones bassist Chi Cheng passed away, frontman Chino Moreno shocked everybody when he said the band were revisiting the demos forĀ Eros,Ā the last vestige of Deftones music with Chi on it and the album that never came to be due to his horrific accident. He eventually clarified that should the band revisit it, it would not happen anytime soon, yet interviewers do not get the message and still ask him about it.
While promoting the excellentĀ Palms debut (I know I initially said it was disappointing, but I really enjoyed it after a few more listens), Moreno was interviewed by MTV Hive and again said the band has no immediate plans to work onĀ Eros:
I get asked about that record a lot. For a while, I was giving the same answer, āNo, no, no, no, no, no, no.ā After Chiās passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience to say the least. I think it should be released, but we donāt have any definite plans. Thereās some work to do on it. Deftones have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I donāt know if weāre ready for that. Iām not sure thatās where we want to put our energy. It is a special thing for us: itās the last thing Chi played on. It will see the light of day. I just donāt know when.
The first sentence is super cringe-worthy because Chino is basically telling the interviewer "hey, didn't you read the last 50 times I answered this? Stop asking Chino about this! It's a moot point. Once the band is ready to revisit Eros, they will do so and I'm sure they'll let the fans know about it!
