Fear Factory is plotting a big 2023 with the revelation of their new vocalist and eventually a new record and label. The new record will be the first Fear Factory record ever without vocalist Burton C. Bell, which has left a lot of fans wondering what direction the band will take.
In an interview with Metallerium, Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares said the new stuff will be informed by the band's modern releases and isn't sounding much like their classic material. Though it's worth noting that Cazares qualifies his statement by saying "so far." So who knows – maybe the dude will wake up tomorrow and crank out a ton of Demanufacture-style songs.
"I would say that so far the songs that I've written for that probably have more influence of Mechanize and Genexus and Aggression Continuum; more of an influence of those three albums so far.
"Going back to Demanufacture — some records that you create, some art that you create sometimes is not easy to replicate, although some fans would probably like to hear that, and some fans probably not. But whatever comes out comes out. I don't necessarily say, 'Hey, I wanna write it in this style,' or whatever. I just do what comes from the heart and what comes from my head and just go with that; I go with my gut feeling. But I definitely like to push things as best as they can be."
While we still don't know who the new vocalist is, Cazares recently mentioned in an interview with Heavy Debriefings that they'll allow Fear Factory to dust off some songs they haven't performed in a while live.
"We're definitely gonna be throwing in our biggest, most streamed song, which is 'Linchpin'; we're gonna be able to finally put that in the setlist. And we're gonna be able to do a lot of songs like that, stuff that we haven't been able to do in a while. [The new singer has] got an amazing voice, which definitely opens doors for us to be able to go and pick and choose any song that we want and add it to the setlist.
"When we're doing this tour with Static-X, we've only got 50 minutes, so we're gonna be trying to squeeze in as much from our catalog as possible — at least doing two songs or one main song from each record. Of course, you can't do 'Shock' without 'Edgecrusher'. You can't do 'Demanufacture' without 'Replica'. 'What Will Become?' and 'Linchpin' from the Digimortal era. So there's a lot of songs for us to choose from — 'Poweshifter', 'Dielectric'; there's a lot of songs. So we're gonna try to squeeze 'em all in there and try to not talk as much, just so we can get another song in there."
