Cassette Store Day, Record Store Day's rectangular sibling, will be taking place across North America on October 17 this year. The offerings aren't particularly metal this year, but a few solid groups managed to sneak their way into the event! Below are what metal and rock releases will be out this year.
Down – Down III: Over The Under (Down)
Down – Down IV Part I (Down)
Down – Down IV Part II (Down)
Fistula – Vermin Prolificus / Ignorant Weapon (The End Records)
Kylesa – Spiral Shadow (Season Of Mist)
Kylesa – Ultraviolet (Season Of Mist)
Motörhead – Bad Magic (UDR)
Self Defense Family – German Industrial Ballads (Bad Paintings)
Various Artists – Sabbath Sorta Sabbath (Under The Gun Records)
According to the Cassette Store Day website, the Sabbath compilation is "a tribute to the masters Black Sabbath!!! Featuring: The Shrine, Zig Zags, Fogg, Banquet, Goya, Babylon, Endless Bummer, Glitter Wizard and more!!!"
I like that there's a Cassette Store Day, honestly. It's a fun little idea for another format that's making a bit of a comeback, so why not do some limited releases? Plus, if you're wondering how cassettes are made, check out this awesome documentary-style video Bloomberg Business did on an oddly thriving cassette factory here in the United States!
