The shockwaves from the controversial video that surfaced last week of Phil Anselmo shouting "white power" at the top of his lungs are still being felt. Besides a few of his peers speaking out against his actions, now Anselmo will feel it where it really hurts, his wallet.
According to Metal Hammer, Dutch festival FortaRock has kicked Down off the bill saying they are no longer welcome after Anselmo's actions. Here is a rough translation of the festival's Facebook page posting:
After the recent outbursts by singer Phil Anselmo during the Dimebash event in the US, his band Down is no longer welcome at FortaRock. Anselmo ended the show in the US with a Nazi salute and shouted "White power". There has been close consultation between all parties recent days, since we wanted to make a well informed decision. On that basis, the decision is made to cancel the act. We want to make clear that there is no room for racism or fascism at FortaRock.
Now I'm sure there will be Anselmo-apologists who will bash this fest because "Phil didn't do anything AND he apologized" but clearly, if what he did was nothing, these promoters would not be taking the actions they did. It's their private event and they can do with it what they please.
