Earlier today, we reported that David Vincent was out of Morbid Angel. We assumed this was the case because founding guitarist Trey Azagthoth posted that he was working with vocalist Steve Tucker, who originally replaced Vincent in 1997, on new Morbid Angel. Naturally, we assumed this meant Vincent is out.
But Vincent just released a statement of his own denying he is out of Morbid Angel:
"I am aware of Trey Azagthoth's announcement of a collaboration with Steve Tucker on new music. However, the inference that I have left Morbid Angel is incorrect. To be clear, I have not left Morbid Angel nor have I been asked to do so."
This is confusing. So did Trey leave the band? Is this Trey and Steve project something completely different? Are Trey and Vincent still collaborating? Are there going to be two actively touring groups performing under the moniker of Morbid Angel? I guess we'll find out soon enough.
One thing we know for sure is Tim Yeung is definitely out of the group. The drummer released a statement earlier today saying he quit over "financial reasons."
