We're past the whole Ghost drama now and the band is doing better than ever, with some big arena shows on the horizon. But, you may recall that mastermind Tobias Forge had a tumultuous 2017, as his identity was exposed by former members of the band who sued him for what they claim is their fair share of earnings from touring. Tobias matained that the band was essentially a solo project of his and they were hired as session musicians.
One former member who chose not to sue was Martin Persner, who went by Omega, and arguably had the biggest impact on Ghost besides Forge. Persner relaunched the band he and Forge were in before Ghost, called Magna Carta Cartel, this time without Forge present. In the midst of promoting the band's new material, he was asked about why he left Ghost and he offered an interesting response to Goetia Media:
“I don’t wanna talk about that. I’m sorry. I understand – of course, everyone wonders – but, to me, basically, it’s a group of five or six very, very good friends, and something horrible happened.
“And to me, it feels like talking about the divorce of your wife – it’s so horrible – so I’d rather not talk about anything about that in terms of how we feel about each other and stuff, because it’s too personal.”
"Something horrible" can mean virtually anything. Having an argument about money can be something horrible, a member of the band sleeping with your mother is something horrible or just a really cutting insult about a taboo topic. Point is that Martin was being general purposefully because he did not want to get into details. I imagine we will never know the true extent of the drama unless perhaps Forge decides to air it out.
As mentioned, Persner was promoting a new single from his band, which you can hear below. They also announced some new dates:
