The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2021 was announced this week and included Foo Fighters, The Go-Go's, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren and Tina Turner. One band notably not included on the list was the legendary Iron Maiden. It almost doesn't make sense, does it?
One band that agrees, is Hall of Fame nominees KISS. There was a time that KISS was the rock band that people were confused about not being inducted but that all ended in 2014, when the band were inducted, five years after they were eligible. Now, KISS are speaking up for their collegues.
Linking to the story, Gene Simmons commented "RR Hall of Fame is a sham not to include Maiden. Disgusting!"
Paul Stanley chimed in, adding "Regardless of whether it matters to them, Maiden not being in the [Rock Hall] of Fame is INSANITY. Regardless of who is writing in or not, the Committee must induct them. They have helped spawn an entire genre of music. What else do you need to do??"
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame President and CEO Greg Harris has since spoken to Audacy about the seemingly outright snub of metal artists, saying that the hall does indeed celebrate metal. It's just that metal artists keep not making the cut.
"It’s an interesting one because we do," said Harris. "We celebrate all forms of Rock & Roll. They were nominated; we nominated Maiden, Judas Priest have been nominated, we put Def Leppard in… Those that are nominated, over 80% of them eventually do get inducted.
"So it’s really a question of, let’s keep nominating them, let’s get ‘em on the ballot, and let’s get it out to the voting body. This ballot had sixteen artists on it… they just can’t all go in."
