A few weeks ago, KISS frontman Gene Simmons decided he was going to try and trademark the iconic metal devil horns. Simmons filed his trademark claim with an incorrect image of the devil horns, and Wendy Dio slammed him for it. The gesture is widely credited to her late husband Ronnie James Dio, though Wendy said the gesture precedes him as well, and was used by artists such as Coven and The Beatles.
Simmons fired back saying he totally did invent it alongside synchronized stage moves (for some reason), though ultimately withdrew his application quietly. Now Sharon Osbourne has jumped in the conversation on The Talk, saying Simmons is "crazy," and that trademarking the horns is just greedy.
"He's crazy. He's trying to get money from the merch where you see this [gesture] on merch, but actually this [symbol], in Italian, which has been going for hundreds of years, means 'the devil.' That's what it means. And so kids at concerts have been doing it for years and years and years. And in '74? Where were you in the '60s when they were doing it, kid, because they've been doing it forever."
"C'mon! Stop trying to make money from posters and t-shirts. You've got enough."
We're talking about the dude that sells air guitar strings, so I'm not really sure this whole ordeal should be a shock to literally anyone.
