The old saying goes imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, not in this case.
Earlier today, The Dillinger Escape Plan took to Facebook to commend the artist who designed the cover of their 2013 release, One Of Us Is The Killer by writing:
"Two years ago the giant undertaking of recording this album was underway. The importance of the perfect visual representation of our songs and themes, as captured by the original artwork of Brian Montuori (who also created the artwork for Miss Machine), can't be overstated."
Coincidentally, today was also the day the new record from The Ghost Inside came out. You can see their artwork above, and it doesn't take a scientist to see there are quite a few similarities between both pieces of art. Lambgoat noted that somebody asked Dillinger what they thought of the Ghost Inside's cover and somebody (I'm assuming guitarist Ben Weinman Update below) responded "offensively soulless rip off." Here's the screenshot:
It's safe to say The Ghost Inside probably won't be opening for Dillinger anytime soon.
Update: There was some confusion if Dillinger's comment was directed at the album art or the fake logo above the comment. Lambgoat reached out to guitarist Ben Weinman to get comment directly, who said he didn't originally post that Facebook response, and he's not sure who did. He offered this when asked if he felt ripped off by The Ghost Inside:
"If I saw the two next to each other, I would have personally asked to make a few changes and not make the vinyl the same… I mean I wouldn't have let that slide personally but I don't give a shit what other bands do… I do feel bad that those guys have to deal with all this drama right now during the release of their album. I'm sure they worked really hard on it."
