Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger may have had one too many beers in a recent interview, when he lashed out at Stone Sour, and Corey Taylor in particular. The full text is a must-read, but here's the relevant part for this new wrinkle in the story:
"Corey Taylor has said some really nasty things about me before in the press. He talks about how easy it is to write a hit song. Well, show me. Show me. Write one." [..] "[Slipknot] had to put on masks and jump around. How good can your music be if you've gotta beat each other up on stage, throw up in your own masks every night…? I mean, music shouldn't come with a gimmick; music should just be music"
Corey Taylor is not one to shy away from the media, and while doing rounds for the upcoming Stone Sour album, Taylor spoke to 98KUPD and was obviously asked about the drama:
“Here’s the deal, I’m sitting there trying to figure out how I was going to handle this, ‘Cause it’s so funny. So apparently he was just like a lil’ drunk and he snapped on Stone Sour, dude. Not only Stone Sour, but Slipknot"
When asked about Kroeger's comments that Taylor said it's easy to write a hit song, Taylor denied that:
“You know what? I’ve never said it was easy to write a hit song. I don’t know what the hell planet he’s living on. Apparently it’s planet Kroeger, because there must be good weed there, because he’s an idiot.”
“Here’s the thing, I was so cued up to say some stuff about him. And then I just started reading all the comments online. I don’t have to say a damn thing—he is not a liked person. That’s all we have to say about it.”
The comments we've seen have mostly been negative towards Kroeger. This is when the gloves really came off:
“This is what I would say, you can run your mouth all you want. All I know is I’ve been voted sexiest dude in rock wearing a mask—You’ve been voted ugliest dude in rock twice, without one, stick that up your ass.”
“I love all the dudes in that band. I love Mike I love everybody else in that band I’m very, very cool with; I’ve hung out with them. It’s just ‘face like a foot’ who I can’t really hang out with. He’s got a face like a foot. Am I wrong?”
"I can’t even say anything about the band, Nickelback, because none of ’em have an issue with us. It’s him. So, dude, curl up in bed with your Hello Kitty pillow and shut up.”
Guitarist Josh Rand noted that Stone Sour were asked to open for Nickelback on a few dates in Canada but turned it down.
Taylor then insinuated that Roadrunner Records, the label that Slipknot are on and where Nickelback made their name, used the profits from the Slipknot record to sign Nickelback stating: “Let’s just say Roadrunner took all the Slipknot money and gave it to Nickelback to sign them.”
