Nothing like starting the day with a rekindling of an old feud.
This feud started back in 1994, when Henry Rollins published his autobiography, Get In The Van and recalled a show his band at the time, the legendary Black Flag, played with another legendary act, Venom. Rollins criticized Venom for eschewing the DIY mindset, as they had a bunch of roadies and compared their show to a Spinal Tap performance saying “Venom suck. They are so full of shit. What a bad joke. They don’t sweat and they probably don’t even fuck.” He called the music "bullshit" and claimed that metal bands are all "hair and makeup."
Twenty one years later, Cronos finally got a chance to rebuff those comments on a recent episode of the One on One with Mitch Lafon podcast:
“Those guys were such fucking children. For all this how ‘we stood around and watched the Venom show’ you know, couldn’t stop watching with his friends, after they finished playing, they got in their vehicles and left so I don’t know what show he watched, it certainly wasn’t the Venom show and also if you read the book, he got the dates wrong of the gig. This is why Henry Rollins writes books and is no longer in a band because he’s not a fucking musician, he’s a fool.”
I love Black Flag and of course, who doesn't love Venom. As a fan of both, I just have to point out how silly this whole thing sounds. The musical landscape was much different 20, 30 years ago, where hardcore and metal were completely segregated. Now, fans don't really care what genre something is as long as it sounds good. Just chill, Cronos!
