GHOST Frontman Would Love To Do A Classical Rock Opera One Day

Ghost IV: The Broadway Musical.

Banger TV did a great review of Prequelle by Ghost during which they pointed out the song "Pro Memoria" was basically a glorified Broadway jingle that just felt a little too cheesy. So now I'm left wondering what it would sound like if Ghost really leaned into that sound hard and tried to make it work. Y'know, really went full on musical. Apparently frontman Tobias Forge would love to do exactly that.

In an interview with The Metal Voice, Forge says he'd love to do a rock opera that went heavy on the vocals and classical-meets-movie-score music.

"The records that I've done so far [have] been thematical — loose conceptual… little bit of a framing… As of right now, I know that the next record will be more thematical in the same vein as the previous ones. I can definitely see the concept of doing more of a rock opera in the future… If I'd ever make a rock opera the way that I think we're talking about here, it would probably — probably — not be necessarily a rock record; it would probably be more classical, more vocal and more traditionally the sort of stuff that you'd hear on a musical — not any musical, but more score-based, if that makes sense."

You can expect a probably-not-very-classical new Ghost album sometime in 2021.

"Rite Here Rite Now is a mostly comprehensive and extremely enjoyable—but slightly pointless—complement to Ghost's first film."
