Just to quickly recap, High on Fire pulled out of touring on this summer's Rockstar Mayhem Festival after Matt Pike was revealed to be entering rehab. The promoters of Heavy MTL and Heavy TO, two festivals in the North happening mid-way through the Mayhem Fest touring cycle had announced that this did not affect the band's appearance on those festivals. I guess Pike had a change of heart and decided it would be for the best to pull out of the tour. Here is the official statement from the festival organizers:
HIGH ON FIRE will also be forced to miss Heavy MTL and Heavy T.O as front man and guitarist Matt Pike enters treatment for alcohol rehabilitation. The award winning power trio (also featuring drummer Des Kensel and bassist Jeff Matz) will put its scheduled touring plans on hold indefinitely as Pike takes the necessary steps towards regaining his health. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I think this is for the best. Pike needs to stay away from the temptations of the road for as long as possible. He is sick and needs to get better. Hopefully, we will see that happen.
