As a collector of CDs and an advocate of the physical format for music, all I really have to say about this is "fuck." Amoeba Music has been serving the Los Angeles area for over 15 years, and has become a bit of a legend around the world in terms of its sheer size and varied stock. According to LAist, the store was sold last October for $34 million and will be transformed into a a 20-story luxury glass tower with rooftop pool.
The store will be staying open for a few years, and the developers say they may even give them more than that… but still.

The one good thing about this situation is that it sounds like the store isn't just closing its doors and going away forever, but instead possibly moving? They certainly have the time and the money to do so!
