Iron Maiden is getting sued yet again by retired rock band manager Barry McKay. McKay originally represented musician Brian Quinn claiming that Iron Maiden took their song "Hallowed Be The Name" from Quinn's band Beckett's song "Life's Shadow." The lawsuit was settled for £100,000.
Now McKay is representing ex-vocalist Dennis Wilcox, who claims he wrote the lyrics to "Prowler", "Charlotte The Harlot", "Phantom Of The Opera", "Iron Maiden" and "Prodigal Son" from the band's first two albums. According to Ham & High, Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris says he penned all the lyrics, and that the credits for "Charlotte The Harlot" should be credited to him and not guitarist Dave Murray.
Iron Maiden does concede that Wilcox may have changed a word or two to "Prowler" and "Charlotte The Harlot," but says it's implausible for Wilcox to remember having written them.
"[He] was, when he was a member of Iron Maiden, notorious for forgetting lyrics for the band's songs, or missing out words, or singing the wrong words. He… even had to sing from lyric sheets at live performances. Accordingly it is implausible that Mr Willcock can now remember lyrics he allegedly wrote some 40 years ago."
