Local Vancouver band Death Preacher performed at Pub 340 in Gastown on December 8 and things got a little racist. According to CBC News, one fan in the crowd during the band's last song decided to perform a Nazi salute. The fan was asked to leave but refused, and was eventually taken out of the venue by security.
Concert Promoter Joey Hockin told the news out that the fan's actions are "totally not acceptable," and "If you show up having any of the symbolism that represents the hatred that goes along with Naziism, you won't even get into the show." Now Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is chiming in with a complete condemnation of the fan, and Naziism in general.
"It's nonsense. Nazi salutes have no place whatsoever in any kind of music community I want to belong to. I think people need a little bit more of a lesson in history, rather than a lesson in ignorance, which seems to be dished out far too often."
Dickinson further said that "People in this country — across the USA, Canada, the U.K.— fathers and grandfathers, fought and died to build a world in which this kind of thing doesn't go on," and he's dead on. Sure, Naziism has no place in modern society and is just a bunch of racist and Nationalism nonsense, but it's also totally disrespectful to those who died trying to prevent its spread.
So y'know – Nazi everyone, fuck off.
