Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson released his autobiography What Does This Button Do? last November, and if you haven't gotten it yet then we highly suggest you do so immediately. Dickinson sat down with BBC Breakfast to talk about the book recently and brings up how vocalists might be able to learn a thing or two from yelling babies. He suggests that babies have "no fear of just letting rip with all their diaphragm and everything," and that anyone who says they can't belt out their voice like that has just simply forgotten how.
"There's a chapter about vocal technique and about how it all works, the voice works and things — just on a mechanical basis, and I make the point that you can learn an awful lot from babies. I mean, the racket that comes out of that tiny little thing!"
"And it goes on forever — they don't lose their voice, do they, ever? Babies have got no fear of just letting rip with all their diaphragm and everything — and they've got these tiny little lungs! My God, they make an amazing noise. So you think about that, and you think when people say, 'Oh, I can't sing.' Oh, yes, you can — you've just forgotten how to do it."
Unfortunately, no matter how much you yell and tap into your younger self, you're just not going to be as good as Bruce.
