James Hetfield Calls Woman Who Used METALLICA's Music To Fend Off Cougar

To get on her for not paying royalties. Okay, not really.

We recently posted about Vancouver resident Dee Gallant using Metallica's "Don't Tread On Me" to ultimately save her life from a wild cougar while on a walk. By itself the story is pretty cool, but of course Metallica guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield made it that much cooler. Hetfield recently contacted Gallant to talk to her a little bit after he saw it posted by fellow Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett.

Naturally, Gallant was at a loss for words, as she tells CTV News. She was especially surprised that Hetfield knew her dog's name, and says they talked about dogs for a little while.

"I was a little bit lost for words. It's surreal how quickly it happened and how far it's gone. The fact that he's so down to earth and such a great person, I'm very pleased to find that out first-hand."

"I can't believe he knows my dog's name. If you had told the 18-year-old me that this would happen, I never would've believed it. I would've just fallen out of my skin with excitement."
