Justin Chancellor Wrote Some New Bass Riffs for TOOL Songs

It's that time again.

Tool-16

Tool released their first new album in 13 years Fear Inoculum in 2019. Which of course means it's about time we start speculating on when we're getting more new Tool music. Drummer Danny Carey recently said he hopes the band writes a new EP while in quarantine, and now bassist Justin Chancellor has revealed he's working on new riffs.

Chancellor tells Bass Player Magazine he's been writing new material for a few of his bands, including Tool.

"I’m working on tracks for a second MTVoid album/EP with Peter Mohamed, who is in Poland. It looks like it will have some cool guest contributions. I’ve been adding bass lines to a project headed by Canadian director Jimmy Hayward, as well as bouncing some ideas around with Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy. After taking part in a Berklee Bass Department webinar recently, I’ve been invited to contribute to Steve Bailey and Victor Wooten’s upcoming Bass Extremes record. And last, but not least, I’ve written some interesting riffs which will be reserved for Tool!"

So here's hoping, right? A new Tool EP would be cool, if only to hear how the band writes for the format 28 years after their currently-only EP Opiate.
