KORN Frontman Says There Is "No Originality" To New Music

Has he really spent time looking?

Korn-Jonathan-Davis

For people who take their music consumption seriously, one thing I've noticed with a large chunk of fans is the older they get, they start to stop seeking out current acts, and sort of settle into the comfort of stuff they love or seek music from a previous age. There is nothing wrong with that. What sometimes bothers me, is when a musician like Korn's Jonathan Davis says something like the quote he gave in a recent interview knocking new music.

Davis was interviewed by Heavy1 TV, and asked if there are any younger bands he'd been listening to. Davis responds:

“The majority of new music coming out, it just sounds all the same to me, there’s no originality. So I’ve been listening to music from the ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s, I call it Murder Music.

“It’s very dark, and I appreciate it because it was done – the way it was recorded, there was no – computers or anything, you had to be a badass musician to do that stuff, so I really liked it. So the ’30s, ’40s, and I listen to a lot of the stuff from the ’70s.”

To me, the first sentence just sounds like Davis is choosing not to seek out good, new music, of which there is such a large abundance – as we cover it hear on Metal Injection every day. There is plenty of great, original music to seek. Davis could've just said right now I'm not interested in seeking out music by new bands, I'd rather go backwards and look at music from the '20s – '40s. But that's just my opinion.

What new music have you been seeking out recently?
