LEMMY's Memorial Service Expanded To Entire Sunset Strip, Webcast To Be Available

One bar can't contain all of Lemmy's friends and fans.

One bar can't contain all of Lemmy's friends and fans.

After Lemmy's tragic passing, the tributes kept pouring in. An official memorial was announced earlier this week to take place at Lemmy's favorite hangout, the Rainbow Bar & Grill. But with word spreading of the memorial, the relatively small bar realized it couldn't possibly house all the people looking to pay tribute to one of the icons of hard rock and heavy metal.

As a result, this Saturday's memorial is expanding… to the entire Sunset Strip!

The memorial will take places starting at 2pm this Saturday, January 9th at The Rainbow, The Roxy and the Whiskey A Go Go. The Rainbow will be closed from 5 – 9pm for a private service, but the other two will remain open with Motorhead blasting all across the strip.

The Jack Daniels will be flowing on the strip this Saturday. Motorhead announced they will be offering a live stream of the official memorial service as well:

Family and close friends will observe a service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood, commencing at 3 p.m. PST and ending at 4:30 p.m. With such limited space available on site, Motorhead is respectfully asking that fans don't attend the service at the cemetery, but the band wants everyone to be a part of this, so they are setting up a live feed of the service via the Internet on Motorhead's official YouTube channel.

"Wherever you are, PLEASE get together and watch the service with fellow Motörheadbangers and friends. GO to your favorite bar, or your favorite club, make sure they have access to an Internet connection and toast along with us. Or simply invite your pals around and celebrate Lemm's life at home. Whatever your venue, and however you can, let's be sure to gather globally on Saturday, January 9 and celebrate the life of our dear friend and irreplaceable icon."

For anyone wishing to send flowers, please contact Karen Brando at Flowers By Michael: (310) 276-1003.

If you would like to make a charitable donation under Lemmy's name, please go to Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund.

If you happen to attend the service, feel free to email photos or anecdotes to [email protected]
