Thin Lizzy initially broke up in 1983 after some internal struggles, and officially ended for good as a recording entity in 1986 after the death of bassist and vocalist Phil Lynott. Thin Lizzy has since reformed as a live-only band and has put out new material under the name Black Star Riders from 2013 onward.
Thin Lizzy will play a handful of festival dates this July and August, and they've invited Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders to play with them. Sanders says it's "no secret that Thin Lizzy has had a big influence on Mastodon’s music. Being asked to join them on stage is a big deal and true honor to me. I am really looking forward to it!" Sanders will be handling bass only, as guitarist Ricky Warwick will handle vocals.
Thin Lizzy for this tour will be their own keyboardist Darren Wharton and guitarist Scott Gorham alongside guitarist and vocalist Ricky Warwick (The Almighty, Black Star Riders), guitarist Damon Johnson (Black Star Riders, ex-Alice Cooper), Troy Sanders (Mastodon, Gone Is Gone, Killer Be Killed), and drummer Scott Travis (Judas Priest, Racer X).
