When the Mayhem Fest cruise was first revealed to us by Machine Head's Robb Flynn, we were beyond excited and ready to go. Then, a few months back, the promoters were forced to cancel the whole thing. Initially, we speculated it might have been due to low ticket sales, but according to Chris Adler, drummer of the headlining act on the cruise, Lamb Of God, it was something else entirely:
“What we heard, and we may have been sheltered and nobody wanted to tell us nobody bought any tickets,” starts the humble Adler, “but they were hesitating on going forward with the marketing and advertising plan for the cruise because nobody really knew if Randy was going to get out.”
Adler says a call was made. “Not knowing if and when he was getting out, I guess they debated whether they should dump a bunch of money into promoting this when Lamb of God’s supposed to be the headliner of the thing.”
The decision was made not to risk the investment. “We totally understand why they did it, and it sucks,” Adler comments. “It would have been a nice way to end the year. Maybe next year.”
The above was written as a part of a column Adler contributes to on GunShyAssassin. Obviously, the Randy situation was his detainment in a Czech prison for five weeks.
Ultimately, it's a bummer that the cruise couldn't set sail. It would've been quite the time.
