Metallica have said that their next priority will be to write a new album, with the idea that it would be released late in the year, or possibly in early 2015.
Well, the band must feel like they are ahead of the game, because in today's announcement of summer 2014 tour dates in Europe, they revealed they'll be playing a new song!
As we embark on two short treks through Europe this summer, we're going to give you, the ticket holders, the chances to vote on what songs you would like to hear at the shows that you attend. We normally play around 18 songs a night, and since we didn’t want to be left out of the fun, the band also gets to vote… and we vote for a NEW SONG! That leaves the other 17 slots for you to choose.
Here are a few dates to get you started:
June 4, 2014 – Sonisphere Hamburg
June 6-9, 2014 – Rock Im Park
June 5-8, 2014 – Rock Am Ring
I absolutely love this idea. Hopefully, Metallica fans will pick some deep cuts, because how many times do we really need to hear "Enter Sandman" or "One"?
It's interesting that the band is promising a new song in the summer, because they pretty much can't go back on their word at this point. Previously, the band has said the new material will be a continuation of their previous album, Death Magnetic, so I guess we'll see.
