Is METALLICA Writing A New Album?

MetallicaNow that we know the Big 4 will not be doing a tour, but instead just one big festival show. Yawn. That means Metallica has had a whole bunch of free time. Turns out the band's been working on some new music. Rolling Stone spoke to guitarist Kirk Hammett who was being quite coy:

"We want to record it in two weeks," guitarist Kirk Hammett tells Rolling Stone. "We had planned on doing it in March, but we pushed it back to May. I don't want to give too much away, but it's not really 100 percent a Metallica record. It's a recording project, let's put it that way. Without getting too deep into it, it's more a recording project than a bona fide Metallica album. Whether or not we can pull it off in just two weeks remains to be seen."

I wouldn't say I'm excited about new music from Metallica, but I would say that I am intrigued. Death Magnetic was not a complete piece of shit, I actually enjoyed a bunch of it so maybe this will be decent as well? Who knows, this could just end up being another covers album or a covers EP since they are only giving themselves two weeks to record. I guess we'll find out come may. The best part of the article though is when RS asked him about how he feels about the other bands in the Big Four:

Whatever that means, Hammett is also looking forward to playing the Big 4 Festival April 23rd with Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. "It's like a big class reunion," he says. "It's super cool because I'm really tight with the guys in Anthrax and I love the guys in Slayer and, you know, I'm never really bothered by the Megadeth guys."

I guess Kirk is still mad that Dave slept with his girlfriend.
