Netflix has announced they're developing a scripted TV series about the creation of Spotify titled Spotify Untold.
The series will be directed by Per-Olav Sørensen, produced by Berna Levin, and co-produced by Luke Franklin. Here's the description for the series despite there not being a release date yet.
At the height of piracy, established heavy-hitters were fighting against where the turbulent music industry was heading. The series centers around young Swedish tech entrepreneur, Daniel Ek, and his partner Martin Lorentzon, who revolutionized a whole industry by offering free and legal streamed music around the world. It is a story about how hard convictions, unrelenting will, access, and big dreams can help small players challenge the status quo by evolving the way we can all listen to music.
Alright, sure. This is a TV series about the biggest streaming service yet and its creation. I completely get the description, but it seems like they're painting Spotify in possibly a might brighter light than they should be. Especially considering the iffy-at-best payouts Spotify gives their artists, the fact that Spotify has been accused of creating fake artists to drive down the amount they have to pay real artists, the fact that they asked artists for their money back in 2019 because they "overpaid," or the fact that Spotify and Amazon sued to pay artists less. And that's just some of the negative press they've gotten. So it'll be interesting to see how that's addressed, if it's addressed at all.
The industry-shaking launch of Spotify will be the centerpiece of a new scripted series that's inspired by Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud's book, Spotify Untold pic.twitter.com/Zl5j9rFP4a
