Birmingham, AL straight edge unit No Cure find themselves with a fair amount of medical bills after their show last Wednesday, September 25 when vocalist Blaythe Steuer and bassist Jake Murnane were stabbed in the course of trying to break up a fight at a show in Nashville, TN. “We are both going to be okay,” wrote Steuer in a post on Thursday on the band’s Instagram explaining what happened, “however Jake is in worse condition. I got discharged this morning after they stitched up my arterial bleed, but Jake is still in the hospital. He got 29 staples in his stomach, and 10 stitches in his shin.” The post ended, “Nice try, but it ain’t that easy to stop the stainless steel,” referencing the title of their 2022 EP …For the Stainless Steel.

In a follow-up post on Instagram yesterday, No Cure announced that, in lieu of a GoFundMe, the band was doing a merch drop instead of limited edition t-shirts that will help pay the band’s medical expenses. “We do not want to go the GFM route unless we absolutely have to,” the post reads, “and it feels better if people get something out of helping us with this. So if you want to wear the scar Jake will be wearing the rest of his life, we got you!”

“The shirts are comfort colors too,” the post continues, “so they will be very soft and not knife like at all. There is zero chance this shirt will stab you.” The two t-shirts feature Murnane’s scars, and the band say that the printer was kind enough to waive their normal fees so that all money will go towards the band’s medical bills.

“Also for those asking, yes the guy that stabbed us went to jail,” continues the update. “No we did not call the cops. Friends called EMS because we were leaking everywhere, which was nice of them. Yes that joke is funny anyway.”

The special t-shirts are available in the band’s merch store, which they refer to as Death Metal Hot Topic. At $29.95, the shirts are well worth it for the story and the chance to wear Murnane’s scar. We’re glad that the band members are okay now and hope the shirts go a long way towards recouping medical expenses.
