This past Sunday's edition of the RIP a Livecast was graced by two metal gods in the form of the legendary Phil Anselmo (Down, Pantera) and Warbeast/Rigor Mortis frontman Bruce Corbitt. A multitude of topics were discussed, including their split EP coming out tomorrow, War of the Gargantuas, and here are some excerpts:
Phil Anselmo on when fans can expect new Down material:
"[It will] probably come out next year. But I would think we would be touring or playing show for the rest of this year. But, I know we're already talking about it. We're already gathering material. We're already discussing riffs. So, the mere fact that we're doing such a thing after such a short time after the first EP… it's a good sign. 2014 looks pretty cool for that new Down."
Phil Anselmo on his social networking:
"I've never been on Twitter. There's been some guy called 'Phil Anselmo Tweets' but I don't tweet, I don't Facebook, I don't do any of that crap. I don't even have a cellphone."
Bruce Corbitt on Rigor Mortis (and Pantera) ever playing another show:
"When you lose a guy like Dimebag or Mike Scaccia, there is no way that either band should ever perform under that name again. That's just my opinion. Rigor Mortis is never going to perform again. That's because Mike Scaccia, deep down, was Rigor Mortis so it wouldn't be right. It's just out out of respect for him. And I think, Phillip, I can't speak for him, but I think he feels the same way"
Phil Anselmo chimed in and said:
"I think [Bruce] summed it up very well. Let the legacy speak for itself. It is there, it's history. Music is history, music is tangible. It's a tangible thing, and it lasts for as long as it's relevant. And that brings me to fans, because without the fans, we would be zero, we wouldn't be acknowledged. [Acknowledgement] is a great thing, and all we can do during these trying times, is honor their names. I always send out a song to Dimebag, but there's a new rule now. The same song, it's called "Lifer," that I send out to Dimebag, I'm going to send to Mike as well. Those guys embodied the entire shape of what is a true lifer in music. They were born to do what they did."
