Black Sabbath are gearing up for their big Download Festival performance this weekend. And with all the commotion about Bill Ward and the drama with it, we are overlooking an important fact. Black Sabbath are writing a new record, and apparently are almost done with it! Ozzy recently spoke to NME magazine and gave us some morsels of information:
"We've written about 15 songs so far," Osbourne said to NME. "Whether they'll get on an album … you just keep on writing. I was trying to [work out]: where would we be now musically if we'd have stayed together?"
When pressed about an album title, he said:
"Next year — 2013 — is a good clue of what we'll call the album."
Um, does that mean the album will be called 2013? Ozzy was also asked what it's like working with Rick Rubin, to which he said:
"He sat us down, put the first album on and said 'listen to this'," said bassist Geezer Butler, "imagine it's 1969, you've just done that, what would you do next?"
Rubin certainly knows how to get the best out of the bands he works with. I am really looking forward to seeing what Sabbath cooks up.
