Growing up on the streets of Brooklyn, NY lead me to be a sponge for all the amazing local acts that would grow to be world wide acts someday. Naturally, one of my all time favorites was the Peter Steele fronted, 3 piece barbarian thrash band, Carnivore which I've been fortunate to see many times. A band so over top and wild, they will forever have a special place in my heart.
Way ahead of its time, Carnivore created only two albums in their career, that would later become internationally recognized for its genius. The second, and final, album being Retaliation, which turns 30 years old this September!
To celebrate the occasion, original guitarist on Retaliation, Marc Piovanetti, will be taking the stage in NYC this weekend to perform the classic album in it's entirety. This will be the first glimpse of Marc's new band, Circus Of Steele, which plans to release new music later this year. The band also features some seasoned players he's handpicked – Jake Blochinger (THE BANNER) on drums, Adam Tranquilli (BLOODFEAST) on guitar, and Paul LaPlaca (Chris Cafferry, October Thorns).
Paul, being tasked with recreating the legendary Peter Steele's (TYPE O NEGATIVE) signature bass lines and thunderous chords had this to say on the occassion:
"This is one of the biggest challenges I've ever faced. Peter was a huge figure in the Brooklyn music scene as well as internationally and I take it very seriously that his parts are performed as perfectly as possible and that his legacy is maintained and respected."
The Carnivore Retaliation 30th anniversary set takes place this Saturday at Bowery Electric for the BNB pre-show, and includes legendary NY band Cro-Mags as the headliners. You can grab your tickets right here.
