While Metallica are one of the most influential metal bands in the world, if not the most influential, fans almost unanimously agree that the band's mid-to-late '90s output is quite forgettable.
Lately, I've noticed some people come to the defense of Metallica's Load and Reload to which I scoff! I am not the only one. Leave it to a metal icon to break it down for you.
Metal Hammer recently posted a question to legendary Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo about what album, in all of music, should never have been released and Anselmo didn't hesitate in responding:
“I would have to say Load by Metallica. I mean, it’s a terrible record, man. I just don’t get it. If you’re gonna put out a record like that, just do a fucking side project or something, ya know?”
It's safe to say Anselmo probably isn't too crazy about Reload either. I doubt he's going to be blasting "Carpe Diem Baby" anytime soon. Anselmo has officially made it cool for metalheads to like The Smiths and now he has the definitive word on the shittiness of Metallica's Load.
Does anybody actually like Load? Seriously, though? Defend the album in the comments.
