Bear with me here, as I am only speculating based on what I see.
Yesterday, we reported teaser materials surfacing in London that seem to indicate that Guns N Roses is planning to get the old band back together – meaning the lineup from the Appetite for Destruction-era of the band (which of course in addition to Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan, includes Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler) . At this point, it's safe to assume we are on to something with this rumor.
That's because the website in the call to action on that teaser material, GNR.FM, just launched a new iteration, which features actual radio transmissions. The page features the skulls from the Appetite album cover flashing one by one and behind it, curiously, is a map, with some major cities all over the world highlighted. Could this map be a tour routing?
Here is a screenshot of the map without the band skulls. Note that I edited the screenshot to be brighter, click to enlarge:
The one thing that throws off my theory is there seem to be way too many dots in Japan, almost as many as the rest of the world. Is GNR planning to do that many shows in Japan?
Update: A more tech-saavy reader pointed out to me that on mobile, the app allows you to check in and mark your location on the map. The locations are people who have already checked in. A few minutes after publishing, we noticed far more updates to the page, and it explains all the Japanese dots.
Update #2 – If you zoom in on the map, it shows multiple locations. A commenter pointed out that he went to one of the LA locations and it was the sight of the advertisement that was spotted in London yesterday. Mystery solved!
What theories do you have as to what this map could mean?
With the band's current reunion iteration already being one of the highest-grossing tours of all time, we can only imagine how much this tour will gross.
