According to Radio X DJ Chris Moyles, Foo Fighters is releasing a new record next month.

During a February 7 show, Moyles may have slipped up and leaked the news after playing the band's 2011 track "Walk" from Wasting Light. "I love that song so much – Foo Fighters, and 'Walk.' They’ve got a new album coming out in, er, March, Foo Fighters… which I’m very much looking forward to," said Moyles before moving on and not addressing the comment.

Of course there are loads of questions that come with a comment like that, the first of which is if it's even true. And if it is, is it material that Foo Fighters had sitting around from before the death of Taylor Hawkins? Was there a new record all done prior to his death in March 2022? It seems strange to think that Foo Fighters would've written and recorded new music so quickly after the death of Hawkins, but who knows.

Foo Fighters will return to the stage May 26 at the Boston Calling Music Festival, and currently has a few other festivals lined up for the rest of 2023. No new drummer (live fill-in or otherwise) has yet been announced. Foo Fighters released a statement on New Year's Eve 2022 saying "we know that we're going to be a different band going forward" after the tragic and sudden death of Hawkins.

"As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year that our band has ever known, we are reminded of how thankful we are for the people that we love and cherish the most, and for the loved ones who are no longer with us," said the band in the statement.

"Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and a continuation of life. And for the past 27 years our fans have built a worldwide community, a devoted support system that has helped us all get through the darkest of times together. A place to share our joy and our pain, our hopes and fears, and to join in a chorus of life together through music. Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were – and without Taylor, we know that we're going to be a different band going forward.

"We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you. And we know that when we see you again – and we will soon – he'll be there in spirit with all of us every night."
