The mystery of System of a Down doing more new music continues! The band put out two new songs to raise awareness about the ongoing attacks against Artsakh and Armenia, titled "Protect the Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz", in 2020. System of a Down has made it clear they put the songs out as a benefit, and that the songs are not at all about their career.
Of course the conversation then turned to if System of a Down will make any more new music. Vocalist Serj Tankian, who had historically said no to a new record, seemed to recently come around on the idea saying "we'll see what happens."
Now in an interview with Metal Hammer, Tankian was point blank asked if there would be more System of a Down music in 2021. To which he responded "I don’t know," which is very noticeably not a no. So here's hoping, right?
In the meantime, Tankian is releasing his new Elasticy EP featuring music originally written with System of a Down in mind. When the band decided not to make a new album, Tankian took it upon himself to release the songs he wrote. You can check out the title track from the EP here.
