After losing their longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder last October, Smashing Pumpkins threw open the door for a new axeman, and the response has been…well, overwhelming.
10,000. Yes, ten thousand. That's the number of applications the band has received since announcing their search earlier this month. It's enough to make even Billy Corgan, raise an eyebrow. "Currently, there are eight people working full-time to review each and every one," the band confessed on social media post.
It's clear the Pumpkins are taking the search seriously. Replacing Jeff Schroeder, the band's guitarist for 16 years, is a tall order. His playing and ability to complement Corgan's signature style were key to Smashing Pumpkins' sound. Let’s say that finding a suitable replacement is no walk in the Mellonville park.
