Last year had a ton of great new albums and amongst the multitude of releases was the dazzling Black Metal album from New York's So Hideous. Laurestine was a unique and refreshing album that stood tall against a number of other releases from last year. It featured many elements of other genres, like much of Black Metal, does today.
What separated So Hideous's Laurestine from the rest of the pack was its radiant inclusion of orchestral instruments throughout the listening experience. These atypical instruments melded to the fourpiece's ambient Black Metal formula masterfully and in return, the album received praise from numerous writers and critics, including our own Riley Rowe.
2016 will see the album get a bit of a makeover, as So Hideous has announced there will be an orchestral version of Laurestine released on May 6th through all digital outlets. This is certainly exciting news. To get a new spin on a great piece of music is always an intriguing notion and worthy of the time it takes to check it out. My imagination is currently ablaze thinking about the possibility of what this album could sound like. Stay tuned and in the meantime, enjoy the original album below!
