Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter missed the band's show at The Metro in Chicago and their appearance at Lollapalooza earlier this year. Deftones explained that Carpenter had come down with a "sudden illness" at the time and wasn't able to play. Then Carpenter missed Deftones' co-headlining show with System Of A Down at the Golden Gate Park Polo Field in San Francisco, CA about two weeks later, and Deftones didn't explain why.
Amidst the absences came an interview with Rock Feed where Carpenter explained his anxieties over travel at length, which echoed his Sol Invicto bandmate Richie Londres' comments earlier in the year regarding Carpenter:
"Consider how narrowly avoiding death by islamists at the Bataclan might effect you? Consider the last 4 years we've all been through, how that might effect your choices today? Considered the effect of losing your best friend to a car accident. Consider Boeing? Whatever it might be, after touring for 30+ years I think anyones got a right to make their own choices and not be slandered by their own people so to speak."
Now according to Sol Invicto Instagram account, Carpenter is feeling better about things and will rejoin Deftones at their Dia De Los Deftones festival held on November 2. Check out that full lineup here.
