Tampa, Florida is home to many seminel death metal acts like Deicide, Morbid Angel, Death, and the relocated Cannibal Corpse. It is also the home to this year's Republican National Convention, where Mitt Romney will be formally nominated as the presidential candidate to take on Barack Obama in the November election. One intrepid Yahoo! News reporter decided to ask why, and even got a quote from an organizer from the host committee, who had no idea of Tampa's prominence in the death metal scene saying:
"Maybe I'm just a really boring human being, but I was not aware of Tampa being a death-metal capital," said Tampa Bay Host Committee president Ken Jones. "Maybe had I known that, I could have used that to raise a few dollars."
For what it's worth, death metal musicians aren't losing sleep for not being invited, with Cannibal Corpse's Alex Webster having the most elloquent quote:
"The kind of people that are going to listen to Bob Dole's opinion are not the kind of people who want to listen to our music in the first place," Webster said. "There are plenty of Republican death-metal fans. I'm sure we have fans on both sides of the fence."
Apparently, there was some organization of a death metal show to combat the convention, but certain bands touring schedules got in the way of anything coming to fruition. You can read the whole article here.
