When the shadowy realm of extreme music is the subject of the conversation, few figures loom larger than Tom G. Warrior. From the foundational rumblings of Hellhammer to the groundbreaking echoes of Celtic Frost and the haunting landscapes of Triptykon, the Swiss musician surely has etched his name in the annals of metal.
However, for those still traversing the expansive soundscapes of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, the entry point into Triptykon's domain can be daunting. With a discography that boasts two full-length albums, a live LP, an EP, a single, and two box sets over 15 years, the question arises: where does one begin?
According to the maestro revelation to Revolver, the ideal entry point is found in the depths of "Abyss Within My Soul."
"'Abyss Within My Soul' contains most elements that define the approach, sound, and lyrics of Triptykon. I personally like it for the fact that it's a fusion of black-metal elements, hard rock, and early new wave." Warrior explained.
"The earliest ideas for this song arose when I was reading David Meltzer's compendium Death. I became drawn infinitely to some of the more introspective revelations of the essays and poems contained therein, and this, in turn, led to my own interpretation of some of these themes," he added.
