It's no secret that Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi wants to remix the band's 1995 album Forbidden. Forbidden was Sabbath's final album before its long hiatus and eventual return with 2013's 13 album, and featured Iommi, bassist Neil Murray, drummer Cozy Powell, and vocalist Tony Martin. Back in 2015, Iommi said he was never happy with the way the album sounded and wanted to remix it, and now that sentiment is being echoed by Martin.
Martin tells Metal Jacket Magazine that he would re-record the album and re-write some of the lyrics, and that the final product didn't quite live up to the demos.
"I told [Iommi] that. It was me, Cozy Powell and Geoff Nicholls, I think, who is also not with us now. We were saying that 'this is not Black Sabbath.' And I understand what they were trying to do — the Run-D.M.C. thing — but no, it didn't work. It didn't work. I have demos from the rehearsals, and it sounded really cool — really hard, and some of the songs are really kicking it. So I would love to re-record that. And if I got the chance, I'd actually like to re-write some of the lyrics, because my head wasn't there in the album. But if I get the chance, we'll have a go."
Martin adds that Iommi just bought a new house and is going to build a new studio, and is definitely interested in the project, as well as maybe doing a few new songs.
"It is definitely possible. I spoke to him just a few weeks ago. He's bought a new house and he's building a new studio. He said he needs to set that up and get that all ready. But when he's ready, I'm happy to do it, and I know he wants to do it."
So why not, right? An alternate version of Forbidden could be cool. Personally, I don't hate the album, but hearing what the duo really wanted it to be could be awesome! Though here's hoping they leave Cozy Powell's drums in there.
