Vallenfyre, the trio consisting of vocalist and guitarist Gregor Mackintosh (Paradise Lost), drummer Waltteri Väyrynen (Paradise Lost), and guitarist and now-bassist Hamish Hamilton Glencross (ex-My Dying Bride, ex-Solstice), has put out three albums between 2011 and 2017, the most recent being Fear Those Who Fear His out last Friday.
The album was its first as a trio, and according to Mackintosh, it'll also be its last as a trio… or anything ever, really. According to an interview with Metal Convenant, Mackintosh says he's pretty sure that Fear Those Who Fear Him will be the wrap up to the band's career.
"Um, Vallenfyre is like my Saturday night out. Yeah, I have fun with it. I can't deny that, but I can't say that I take it too seriously. Again, like with Paradise Lost, the music is quite serious, but it's like, you know, having a few drinks and going down to the pub with your mates type of thing. But I wouldn't say the heart, no. Because I don't intend… You know… We're 90 percent sure now that we'll never record anything else with Vallenfyre. So we'll leave it as a trilogy. So if that's where the heart was, I left it behind me."
Well, if this is truly the end, then at least the band went out on a morbidly high note. Though we've heard the whole "this is definitively the end" bit from countless bands before, so we'll see how that holds up.
