Metallica has launched a new website called Metallica XX. The website currently consists of only a countdown timer that will end on Thursday, October 10.
Our best guess right now is that their recent S&M² concert will be getting an official release date. The reasons for this are that the band recently posted a cinematic teaser for the upcoming release, and that the website is called Metallica XX, or Metallica 20. S&M was released in 1999 and S&M² is presumably coming out in 2019. Connect those dots. As an added reason as to why this is probably a release date for the live album, it's one day after S&M² hits theaters.
Much like S&M, S&M² was performed with The San Francisco Symphony. The symphony was conducted by Edwin Outwater for the shows, and was guest conducted by conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.
S&M was originally performed with The San Francisco Symphony at The Berkeley Community Theatre on April 21 and 22, 1999. Metallica released the record in November 1999, and over the course of the past 20 years has sold more than 5.5 million copies of it in the United States alone.
