Billie Eilish has exploded onto the music scene in 2019. The seventeen year old pop star had some big hits this year with "Bad Guy" and other jams. Eilish has also given props to the metal scene, recently rocking a shirt paying homage to Rob Zombie, Type O-Negative and Cradle of Filth as well as releasing a death metal style logo beanie.
Unfortunately, Billie is seeing the ire of some metal fans today. Billie was on a recent edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live and Jimmy pointed out the age disparity between them, saying he was Billie's age in 1984. Kimmel then started bringing up famous stars of that year, that lead to this exchange:
“Do you know who Madonna is?” he asks.
“I do know who Madonna is,” she replies.
“Can you name a Van Halen?” he asks.
“Who?” replies Billie, looking mystified.
“I’m going to start crying,” says Jimmy.
Somehow, this led to a lot of folks online being very mad about her lack of knowledge about an 80s band.
Everyone but current (?) Van Halen member, Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie Van Halen, who absolutely had the best take I saw online:
If you haven’t heard of @billieeilish, go check her out. She’s cool. If you haven’t heard of @VanHalen, go check them out. They’re cool too.
Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. Listen to what you want and don’t shame others for not knowing what you like.

Thanks for the levelheadedness.
