A new report from local Indiana station WISH-TV profiling the four local Indianapolis men who were arrested and charged in the insurrection riots indicated that Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer hadn't voted for 12 years prior to the 2020 election
Schaffer was reportedly the only man of the four to actually have voted in the 2020 election. One of the other men voted in the 2016 election.
The report states:
Jon Schaffer of Columbus, Indiana, the guy shown storming through the front doors of the Capitol with a can of bear spray, is the only one of the four Indiana men charged with storming the Capitol to have voted in the last general election.
According to documents uncovered by I-Team 8, Schaffer voted in 2020, but it had been 12 years since he last voted. According to his voting record, he did not vote in the 2016 general election.
As of Friday, Schaffer was still being held at Marion County Jail in Indiana. Schaffer is scheduled to be extradited to Washington, D.C.. Schaffer was arrested in Hamilton County, charged for his role in the Capitol insurrection on January 6. Schaffer turned himself into authorities on January 17th. WISH-TV reports U.S. government officials not to grant Schaffer bail.
Schaffer has previously identified as “a constitutional conservative.” In a Facebook chat earlier this year, he said "People think they don't have any power, but they have a tremendous amount of power — I mean, an unbelievable amount of power," Schaffer added. "The system and the control grid wants to make you feel like you have no power and they enforce their rule through fear, intimidation and psychological warfare. It's all garbage.
"I'm not a left-or-right guy. I'm an American — that's my country; that's where I live. I don't trust my government. I don't give a shit if it's an 'R' or a 'D' next to the name of the person. I try to understand the bigger picture. I've done a lot of reading and a lot of studying. I'm a man of my convictions, and I don't say stuff that I don't truly believe. And I have changed my position a few times through the years, because I've learned more — not because I was trying to be politically correct or trying to kowtow to somebody's opinion."
This past summer, he called COVID-19 "a psychological warfare campaign on the people more than it is a serious pandemic," adding "I think there's a lot more going on than meets the eye here — in fact, I know there is. Legitimate doctors and scientists are being censored and banned on YouTube constantly. It's unbelievable levels of fraud."
The FBI has charged Schaffer with six different charges, one of which accuses him of spraying Capitol police with bear spray, a more potent form of pepper spray. Schaffer is not guaranteed bail, and must prove that he is not a threat to himself or the public to be granted so. Schaffer is dealing with the following charges:
- Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority
- Disrupting the Orderly Conduct of Government Business
- Knowingly Engaging in an Act of Physical Violence Against any Person or Property in any Restricted Building or Grounds
- Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building
- Engaging in an Act of Physical Violence in a Capitol Building
- Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building
Schaffer was wearing an Oath Keepers hat during the raid as is believed to be a member of the group.
A report from The New York Times today described the group as a "far-right militia-style organization founded by military and law enforcement veterans that professes to believe that a shadowy globalist cabal is plotting to take away Americans’ rights." The local Indianapolis chapter of the Oath Keepers released a statement saying Schaffer was not a member.
